Merrywalks Retail Centre, Stroud

gallery image
Description:

Following the decommissioning of Stroud bus depot, this project involved the construction of a new three-storey leisure and retail centre on the Northern edge of this historic town.

The accommodation, totalling approximately 123,000 sq. ft. included A3 retail units and a multiplex cinema at ground level, retail units, linked to the existing Merrywalks shopping centre, at first floor, and a leisure facility at third. When viewed from Merrywalks, strong columns, which organize the ground floor glazed façade, rise to support a zinc clad cantilevered upper level.

The junction between the new centre and adjoining multi storey car park was articulated by a striking staircase, rising the full height of the building.

Location: Merrywalks, Stroud
Client: Streetlands Co.
