Apartment Block, Cardinal Street, Oldham

gallery image
Description:

A 48 apartment scheme on the site of a former Victorian school building consists of both 1 and 2 bed apartments built for Great Places for sale, rent and shared ownership occupation.

The site is on the edge of Oldham town centre and the resultant design solution and architectural language reflect this urban ‘feel’ with the strong block forms sitting hard up against the street. The 5/6 storey render and blue facing brick blocks step down towards Yorkshire Street acknowledging the surrounding topography.

Exposed flat roof areas are used as high level communal gardens, with extensive views over the townscape and Saddleworth moor. The change in site level is also exploited to provide private undercroft car parking.

Location: Cardinal Street, Oldham
Client: Great Places Housing Association
